Parenting is a pilgrimage - the ultimate wisdom journey

Parenting is one of life’s most monumental learning curves. As parents, we experience the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. And yet we are so often doing it alone. Even when we’re doing it in partnership. Countless parenting books have been published telling us how to understand and meet our children’s needs, and outlining their developmental milestones - which we studiously follow and tend. What about our needs? What about our developmental milestones?

You are on life’s ultimate pilgrimage. You are not alone.

Parent Pilgrim:

  • Builds community

  • Collects wisdom

  • Shares wisdom

The world’s great spiritual Masters sat on mountains to gain their insights. I don’t have time to sit on mountains (for very long). My insights are coming thick and fast though. My children and my responsibilities and journey as a parent have been my greatest and most humbling teachers.

An evolving platform, Parent Pilgrim will, over time, become a parenting community, a blog, podcast and book. Join us - share your story, share the love, help us to help more parents realise the power and importance of their hard fought wisdom.

About your fellow Pilgrim, Lucy

Lucy is a mother of teenagers, a sister, daughter and wife. She is a story catcher, wisdom-seeker, medicine woman and space-holder. Lucy has trained as a lawyer, social worker, company director and coach and has won awards for her work in leadership development - from youth to community to corporate. She is a published author and sought after facilitator and presenter.

Lucy worked for five minutes (well, about a year) as a Parent Educator when her children were little but she felt far from an ‘expert’ and decided she needed a few more years of parenting under her belt before she could hold space for others. She has been gestating this project ever since and has realised she will never feel quite ready but, embracing her love of ‘non-expert experts’, she has decided to walk her talk and help others recognise their non-expert expertise. Fun facts: Lucy speaks English, French and Danish, is a trained KaHuna massage therapist, and a humanist who loves nature and dogs!   Lucy’s first book ‘Beyond the Stethoscope: Doctor’s Stories of reclaiming hope, heart and healing in medicine’, and more information about her work can be found here: www.lucymayes.com
